Chapter Five

“That was just terrible,” Mrs. Jansen told Cam and Eric as they walked away. “You accused an innocent man of being a thief.”

“But he is a thief,” Cam said. “I looked at the pictures I have in my head. That was the same sweatshirt. Those were the same jeans with the same ink spot near the left pocket.”

“He didn’t have the camera,” Mrs. Jansen said, “so he wasn’t the thief.”

“But, Mom!”

“I don’t want to hear any more about it. We’re going to the police station. Then we can go to the museum.”

At the police station, Mrs. Jansen told Cam and Eric to sit on one of the benches. She went to the front desk. The officer there asked her some questions and he filled out a report.

When she was done, she told Cam and Eric, “We’re going to the museum now. Don’t run ahead and don’t chase after people. Stay with me.”
